Publisher announces print move for next year, and raft of team promotions, as it continues 'storming run'
Canelo has made a number of promotions and started work on a significant print programme as it 'prepares to continue a storming run of growth through to 2019'.
The publisher released a bullish statement this morning about its plans for next year. 'Canelo has achieved consistent and significant year-on-year increases in its ebook sales. As part of the company’s continued expansion, it is now entering into the print market for the first time, working closely with retail partners to identify opportunities both for new titles and from its already extensive backlist.
'Canelo is gearing up for a major push in this area having experienced huge recent retail demand, with print numbers set to rise steeply over the next year. Although the print list will focus on a limited number of titles at first, the hope is to grow this substantially over the coming years.'
The company also announced a string of promotions. 'In recognition of strong performances in 2017 and 2018, Francesca Riccardi is promoted to sales & marketing director, Laurel Sills is promoted to senior commissioning editor, and Ellie Pilcher is promoted to campaigns officer, all with immediate effect.
'Riccardi has skillfully overseen a major push across retailers, is driving Canelo’s audio strategy and has taken over responsibility for the Sales & Marketing department as a whole. Sills has pushed forward Canelo’s vibrant reissue publishing with verve and much commercial success. She is now also commissioning new books with a focus on Historical Fiction and Fantasy. Pilcher has run numerous successful campaigns for bestselling books, working closely with reviewers and bloggers, whilst deftly grown the company’s social media and advertising presence.'
Iain Millar, Canelo’s managing director, said: "Publishers are only as good as their authors and their staff. In both respects we are incredibly lucky at Canelo. Since starting in 2015 we’ve grown to be a team of fourteen, with a flourishing ebook and now print publishing programme. This is testament to a phenomenally hard-working and talented team, not least Francesca, Laurel and Ellie, whose contribution has been immense. We couldn’t be more excited for them and for the future of the business."
