The organisation helps homeless people in London with recovery and finding housing and work
DK has announced that its charity partner of the year will be The Connection at St Martin's, an organisation close to the publisher's Strand office that helps homeless people in London with recovery and finding housing and work.
The charity partnership for 2019 will focus on raising awareness of the work and programmes that The Connection provides, as well as encouraging DK staff to raise funds and participate in a range of meaningful volunteering opportunities.
Ian Hudson, DK ceo (pictured), said: "Street homelessness is impossible to miss in central London, particularly in the area surrounding our office, and this is only a symptom of a much bigger problem. We are honoured to support a charity doing such incredibly valuable work and to help make a positive impact on addressing this important issue."
The Connection helps over 4,000 homeless people every year to move away from and stay off the streets of London. It does this by tackling the underlying causes of rough sleeping as well as offering practical help. It provides tailored employment support and training, volunteering opportunities and housing advice.
Pam Orchard, chief executive at The Connection, said: "I am absolutely delighted that DK has chosen us as its charity partner of the year. Rough sleeping in London has been increasing since 2010, and is up 17% on this time last year alone. This makes the work we do even more important. Our partnership with DK will provide the vital support that is needed to help people move away from rough sleeping into a sustainable, independent life away from the streets. I look forward to working with them."
