Hachette pays for EU staff's Brexit costs

Publisher will cover costs for employees applying for settled status in UK following Brexit

David Shelley, ceo, made the offer yesterday with Hachette offering to cover the cost for any employees who are EU nationals applying for settled and pre-settled status.

The collapse of Prime Minister May's Brexit deal earlier in the week has made the prospect of a no-deal exit more likely, and the status of EU nationals in the UK remains uncertain.

Shelley said: "This is an important time to voice our support for all the EU nationals in our workforce and to say that as a business we see you as key to our success and to our future."

It is estimated the publisher has around 150 people affected, with costs per head of £65.
